The Cup was originally planned for 11 October at Prince Mangosuthu Regional Stadium during the Fifa break.

THE much-anticipated Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup has been postponed.

Soccer fans were looking forward to the 2025 event in honour of the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, with extra excitement over Kaizer Chiefs' rare appearance in rural Ulundi, KZN.

The tournament was originally planned for 11 October at Prince Mangosuthu Regional Stadium during the Fifa break.

Chiefs were set to play Eswatini's Nsingisini Hotspur, and AmaZulu FC planned to face Njampela FC.

Due to Chiefs' CAF Confederation Cup match against Simba in the DRC on 18 October, the tournament has been moved to ensure the team has enough time to prepare and travel.

The event will now take place at the same venue on Sunday, 16 November.

Recognised by the Zululand District Municipality, the organisers have assured fans that tickets remain valid for the new date.

Mayor Michael Khumalo expressed disappointment over the postponement but thanked the participating clubs for agreeing on a new plan.

"In particular, we'd like to thank the club owners such as Dr Kaizer Motaung, Derrick Shiba, Jabulani Buthelezi and Sandile Zulu, who were instrumental during our consultation.

"The municipality remains excited and fully committed to delivering a successful and memorable 2025 edition of the Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup, together with its partners, sponsors and the participating clubs," he said.

While the tournament has been postponed, residents can look forward to an exciting weekend of entertainment and cultural celebration.

The Princess Phumzile Buthelezi Rural Horse Race and Agricultural Show Extravaganza will take place at Entendeka in Ulundi on Sunday, 12 October.
