Wanna be a sports commentator? This is your chance

SABC Sport is looking for sports commentators to join them.

The public broadcaster has invited those interested in sports commentating to participate in a talent search competition.

Their main goal is to identify and nurture young, talented commentators to expand their talent pool and ensure a strong pipeline for future sports broadcasters.

There's no fixed number of commentators they're seeking, as their focus is on selecting and nurturing the most promising talent.

SABC's head of communications, Mmoni Ngubane, told Daily Sun that SABC Sport recently conducted a talent search to discover and develop new sports commentators.

Submissions are now closed, and participants were required to submit a demo via a designated email address.

"We received over 7 000 entries, and the winner will be announced once the selection process is complete."

"We're primarily looking for talented individuals between the ages of 20 and 35," she said.

SABC Sport broadcasts across the nine African language radio stations, Radio 2000, TV, and SABC+, so they seek commentators who can provide commentary in the respective languages of these platforms.

"The primary focus of the search was soccer commentary, as we hold extensive soccer broadcasting rights. However, candidates with the ability to commentate on other sports will have an added advantage.

"The search was open to both men and women. The successful candidates will be contracted as freelance commentators for SABC. The search included both radio and television commentary," she said.
