The side, who finished sixth in the Absa Premiership last term, have not won a cup match since owner Chippa Mpengesi founded the club in 2010.
The Chilli Boys have spent two seasons in the National First Division and three in the topflight, but have been knocked out of the Nedbank Cup at the first attempt in each of the last five years.
United have also been eliminated at the round of 16 on all three occasions that they have played in the Telkom Knockout.
They will only make their MTN8 debut this season, and the club’s communications manager Luthando Zibeko says it’s about time they changed their miserable cup record.
“We want to compete; we want to do much better than we did last season. There’s one thing that has not happened since the club has been in the PSL, we’ve never won a cup game so we don’t want just to make up numbers,” Zibeko tells snl24.com/kickoff.
“Every time it’s a cup game you know that Chippa is going to be knocked out by Natal Eastlands or a team from First Division so we want to compete for trophies,” he concludes.
Chippa will have the chance to break their duck when they face Platinum Stars in this coming season’s MTN8.
