'Kaizer Chiefs need a player like Abu who scores goals'

Ethiopian legend Fikru Tefera Lemessa believes compatriot Abubeker Nassir could be the answer to both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates who may be suffering from a shortage of goals.

Ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying double-header between Bafana Bafana and Ethiopia, Tefera believes he has discovered the next best thing to come out of his home country.

One of the best emerging talents on the continent Abubeker Nassir is the subject of interest after he registered 29 goals last season for Ethiopian side Coffee Addis Ababa.

"Chiefs need a player like Abu because he is a box player who scores goals. He is unbelievable," Fikru tells KickOff.com.

"South African football needs a player like that. I know that he can handle the pressure that comes with being at Chiefs.

"Even at Pirates, it is the same. I played for Pirates, so I know what those two clubs need. When you play for those two clubs you need to keep your application at the top by always working hard so that people appreciate you even when you are not scoring.

"With him, the advantage is that he can score the goals. He broke the scoring record here last season so that should tell you what he can do. The boy can score all types of goals and I feel he can fit properly at Chiefs.

"He is a flexible player who is quick and can score goals," says Fikru who was at Pirates in the 2006/07 season.

Chiefs have already been linked with the 21-year-old forward who was the best player in the Ethiopian Premier League last season winning the Golden Boot, Best Young Player and the Most Valuable Player awards.

Despite being included in the national team squad, there are injury concerns regarding his availability in the two matches against Bafana Bafana.

Besides Fikru, the other Ethiopian players that have played in the PSL before are Getaneh Kebede, Fisehayimer Begashew and Mohamed Ibrahim.

Kick-off at the Bahir Dar Stadium is at 15:30.
