Pitso Mosimane susses out AmaZulu, Vukusic

Sundowns entertain AmaZulu in their first round Telkom Knockout clash at the Lucas Moripe Stadium at 15h00.

The Brazilians will be looking to obtain their first domestic cup title since lifting the Nedbank Cup in 2015, while also juggling their Absa Premiership and CAF Champions League ambitions.

Having looked over their opponents in their preparations during the week, Mosimane shared his assessment of the coaching change at Usuthu, with Vukusic having replaced Cavin Johnson last month.

“Ja, he [Vukusic] is a good coach, he turned Polokwane City around [last season], and you can see with those teams that he’s played against [so far],” said Mosimane.

“He hasn’t done so bad and he got some results, like beating Cape Town City in their last league match, so then you know the coach is working hard on the program.

“But he doesn’t have to do anything; he waits from Saturday to Saturday to win a game; the players are fresh. I don’t know when was the last time they played a game, but you know when was the last time I played, so…”

‘Jingles’ also shared his thoughts on the performances of some of AmaZulu’s standout individuals so far this season.

“Their goalkeeper is doing well, they have Tsepo [Masilela]; they have the big boy playing left-centre-back; they have Nhlapo playing in the midfield – one of the most important players for them,” he added.

“[Ovidy] Karuru is on form; Bongi Ntuli is a top scorer; [Talent] Chawapiwa had a nice combination with Bongi – I mean, what a wonderful goal they scored against Cape Town City.

“Morton is there; what is the Ghanaian guy in midfield? He’s there to grind it, with the full-backs overlapping all the time.”
