SAPS released a statement on Friday afternoon, after originally denying reports of an arrest, and confirmed that Zenokuhle Mbatha has been arrested and appeared in court on Friday.
The statement also confirmed that the 25-year-old Mbatha will remain in Police custody and will reappear in court on November 11.
“After receiving info re a no of suspects in #SenzoMeyiwa case, identity parade was held yesterday & 1 suspect was identified,” tweeted The SA Police Service on their official twitter account.
“After consultation with prosecution it was decided to arrest/charge suspect on basis of positive identification.
“The suspect in #SenzoMeyiwa case, Zenokuhle Mbatha, 25, appeared in court today, remanded in custody until 11 November 2014.
“We emphasize that Mbatha is regarded as a suspect & we must allow due process of the law to take its course.
“There are still suspects outstanding & we appeal to public to continue providing info; we'll update media on 3/11 on progress."
