A rising star in the Royal AM's ranks has become one of the few local players to successfully pursued academic excellence while maintaining a professional career. Check it out!

What Happened?

Dutch football legend Johan Cruyff once quoted, “You play football with your head, and your legs are there to help you.”

Many South African footballers often decide to study after their playing careers or in the latter stages of their professional time.

Brains and Brawns

However, that trend seems to be slowly stopping as local ballers are getting their education at a younger age as they seemingly plan ahead to give themselves more options in their future.

Rorisang Mpoza, a goalkeeper in Shauwn Mkhize’s side has shown off his graduation pictures. The shot-stopper has confirmed that he got a diploma in Officiating & Coaching Science (Sports Science).

The youngster is not the first person in the club to get a degree/diploma as MaMkhize herself got a honorary doctorate from the Good Shepherd College of Religion and Training.

According to a study done in 2020, over 40% of the world’s professional footballers have gone bankrupt after retiring from the game and this has shed a big light on the future ballers to get an education.

Other young stars who have also attained degrees during their playing days include Brylon Peterson who has a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering and Sabelo Radebe.

Did you know?

Royal AM used the long weekend to give back to the Kwazulu-Natal community by offloading groceries.

Your thoughts, please?
