Former Bafana Bafana star Katlego Mphela is slowly but surely making his return to the limelight, as his commentary on local football is beginning to fall on listening ears. Here's a look at what the former striker has been up to in his retirement.
The story
Killer is deservedly considered to be a legend in the South African game as his exploits across PSL clubs have earned him a lot of respect. However, it is with the national team that people remember him most, due to his incredible strikes in the green and gold.
Having called time on his professional career in 2019, the former goal-poacher has gone into a bit of a hiatus, however, he is now slowly but surely making his way back into the fringes of mainstream football, though in a different role.

Giving back to the youth
Mphela continues to make appearances at youth development initiatives as he is often seen mentoring and giving advice to young and aspiring footballers. It shows that the marksman is still a respected figure in the game.
Mphela gets his flowers
A few months ago, the Brits-born striker was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the North West Sports Recognition Awards.
"Not everyone gets to experience this type of acknowledgement and I’m extremely grateful that I am able to receive it myself and experience this overflow of emotion," he wrote on Instagram.
"Thank you for honouring me whilst I’m still alive, I am deeply humbled."

In 2009/10, the retired forward won the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot with 17 goals in 30 games. In that same season, he was voted PSL Players' Player of the Season.
