With Sweden-based playmaker Luke Le Roux having named in Bafana Bafana's latest preliminary squad, here's a look at what makes the Varbergs BoIS midfielder a unique character!
Having already earned four caps for the national team, Le Roux is increasingly becoming a regular feature under coach Hugo Broos. The central-midfielder joined the Varbegas in February 2020 from Stellenbosch FC and things have gradually fallen into place for him in Scandinavia.
While his football abilities are unquestioned, as he has already made more than 80 appearances for the Swedish outfit in the three years at the club, something else seems to be working his favour.

The 23-year-old is seriously modest about the way he carries himself. In South Africa, there have been many debates about why exports fail to impress in Europe, with some arguing that Mzansi ballers have serious mentality and attitude problems.
Many stars have often been accused of losing their heads and forgetting where they come from, which is something that has been a contributing factor in their early return to local shores. It appears that Le Roux has his head in the right place as he shies away from having a flashy lifestyle despite his reported €61.9k (R1.2 million) annual salary, per BeSoccer.
With that kind of money, one would expect the maestro to be living a life characterised by high-end clothes and fancy sports cars, however, there are no signs of big flexes.
According to travel guide platform Beelinguapp, Sweden are the world’s third-largest music exporter and concerts are a big part of the culture in the country. However, such distractions don't seem to affect former SuperSport United star in any profound way.
Perhaps it is more impressive that Le Roux remains humble despite being relatively young in a foreign country that could easily consume him. A quick glance at his Instagram shows the player leading a minimalist life with the primary focus being football.
