The VW Polo is undoubtedly a popular ride in South African streets, and that popularity even extends to some of the DStv Premiership’s best stars, including Cape Town City’s Terrence Mashego. Here’s a look at PSL ballers who drive a VW Polo.

Mashego, SuperSport United’s Luke Fleurs, and Golden Arrows’  Nkosinathi Sibisi are some of the notable names who have driven around in the elegant ride.

VW Polo – why it?

According to CAR Magazine, the VW Polo TSI range is one of the best-selling cars by the German automaker - so it makes sense why it is such a hit among ballers in the South African topflight.

While we cannot say for sure why it is such a popular range, there appears to be many reasons for its unequivocal appreciation by many. One of them, we suspect, is simply the fact that is that it is fitting for most environments. The fact that it is a hatch-back could be another reason it is popular with this demographic.

Both designs of the vehicle, the one prior to 2018 as well as the newer model, have a slick design that is timeless. The older model does not seem to be outdated and unlike most ranges, the previous model does not look unfashionable despite the more stylish newer version.

South African topflight stars have them in varying colours, including navy, red, white and black.

Did you know?

The Polo TSI has a 4-star global NCAP rating, which is a rating based on the Adult Occupant Protection and Child Occupant Protection scores resulting from the crash test. Therefore, it is a predominantly safe car.

Your thoughts, please?

In your view, which car model is quite synonymous with local soccer players?
