The Urban Warriors assistant coach reserved most of his praise for the strikers whom he said were pivotal in the team’s hunt for its maiden League championship.

The ‘Silver Fox’ adds that the team’s current form has been built on the hunger on the strikers’ to succeed.

Ajax beat AmaZulu 1-0 on Sunday, courtesy of a second half strike by Thembinkosi Fanteni. This enabled the Capetonians to stretch their lead at the top of the standings to five points.

“The secret to our current form is hard work. We have a very young squad that is hungry to play and want to learn and succeed,” says the veteran Zimbabwean international.

Ajax Cape Town have defied critics who predicted that the club would struggle after they lost the winning combination of coaches Muhsin Ertugral and Ian Gorowa who were snapped up by Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows, respectively.

The youthful Cape Town outfit sits comfortably on top of the standings with 23 points from 10 games. Together with second-placed Free State Stars, they have scored the highest number of goals (15).

Ajax also boasts the best defensive record, having conceded only five goals so far this season.
