Though the national Under-17 team has been handed a preliminary round bye for the competition, they will have either Malawi or Mozambique in waiting in the first round.
The South African teenagers will play host on the weekend of August 29-31 in the first leg while the second leg is due to be played on September 12-14 away.
While the first round appears a light weight challenge it is the possibility of meeting Zambia in the second and last qualifying round that will prove to be a litmus test for Moloi.
That two-leg tie is pencilled in for November with Amajimbos playing away first.
However, to get to meet Amajimbos, the Zambians will have to get past their traditional bridesmaids Lesotho or Namibia as expected in the first round.
Zambia has proved to be a difficult opponent to beat for South African junior teams at all levels.
Moloi, who was reported last week as helping Free State Vodacom League side Mafube United, took over the national Under-17 team in November last year and has already taken the team to Namibia for a Cosafa tournament where they lost in the final on penalties to Zimbabwe.
The former Orlando Pirates’ veteran has already stated that he wants to blend his team into a competitive unit that is kept active throughout the year ready to conquer the continent and qualify for the global finals.
Moloi took over from Doctor Khumalo who temporarily took charge when Serame Letsoaka was promoted to head the Under-20 team.
Amajimbos qualified for the last finals held in Gambia.
