AmaZulu appear to have edge over Leopards

Kick off is at 17h00.

The visitors from KwaZulu-Natal mercilessly put 14 past Young Ones FC, who looked hopelessly out of their depth in the Last 32 round, and then easily brushed off the challenge of Vasco da Gama in the previous round, cruising to a 5-0 win.

Their league form has been good too. Usuthu, barring an unlikely late collapse, should not have any fears of getting caught up in the relegation battle at the foot of the PSL, and they could go on to finish in the top eight if results go their way. AmaZulu’s comfortable sitting and impressive form is in stark contrast to that of the hosts for this quarterfinal, Black Leopards.

Lidoda Duvha have seen two coaches come and go during a campaign fraught with inconsistency and a lack of commitment. They sit rock bottom of the top flight and are the clear favourites to be relegated down to the First Division.

They came within seconds of a first league win for more than four months at the weekend, but a late goal saw Bloemfontein Celtic salvage a 2-2 draw and deny Leopards an additional two points that would have been very welcome in their attempt to lift themselves off the foot of the table.

However, Leopards’ run in the Nedbank Cup has been the silver lining on their very dark cloud thus far this season.

First, they defeated Inspection FC 3-0 in a rescheduled match on March 22, and a week later they huffed and puffed to a 2-0 triumph over Matatiele Professionals.

The latter result may not have been an impressive performance but in cup competitions all that counts is the result, and the upshot is that Leopards are now just 90 minutes away from a lucrative semifinal spot in the Nedbank Cup.

AmaZulu did the league ‘double’ over Lidoda Duvha this season, winning the away match 2-1 in September last year and claiming another three points from the strugglers with a 2-0 victory in the return on March 1.
