The player has been training with Usuthu for the past two weeks after being turned away by Thanda Royal Zulu FC.
Kabongo is originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, but coincidentally made his international debut for Rwanda when Thanda’s Swedish coach Roger Palmgren was the head coach there.
Although Palmgren still has three vacancies for foreign players he felt that Kabongo was unlikely to fit into his plans.
The player then made his way across to AmaZulu, where caretaker coach Clive Barker still has space for one more foreigner.
AmaZulu spokesman Philani Mabaso said that a decision on Kabongo was likely to be taken by the technical staff today.
Should Usuthu decide to sign Kabongo then he could debut against Thanda when the sides meet in their first Durban derby on Saturday at Umlazi’s King Zwelithini Stadium at 18h00.
