Bafana Bafana player ratings vs Guinea-Bissau

Showed great experience and maturity as he did his part in keeping Bafana in the game in the first half. Was called into action in the sixth minute when he denied Brito from close range, after the striker was played through, but he did well to block his sight on goal.

Lacked aggression down the left and struggled to deal with Guinea-Bissau’s wingplay, as they beat him for strength and pace to round him and create openings from wide.

Looked slightly off the pace alongside Hlatshwayo. Struggled to deal with balls into the box and the threat of the Guinea-Bissau attackers. Was caught ball watching before Guinea-Bissau’s goal, as the ball crossed his path before Balde got onto the end of it.

Put in a strong showing in central defence, although struggled to deal with the low crosses into the box. Lacked the synergy alongside Mathoho as misunderstandings often lead to pressure on Khune’s goal.

Had problems dealing with the threat of Zezinho down the Guinea-Bissau left-wing, but combined well with Zwane and Dolly, and completed a few good runs down the flank to try and penetrate the opposition defence. Lacked real presence in defence as he allowed Balde to get ahead of him and score in the 78th minute.

Did a good job in picking up the loose balls in midfield but gave away possession when under pressure on a few occasions. Held his position to allow Mokotjo the freedom to push forward and provided good cover through the middle of the park.

Stood out in midfield as he stamped his authority from the onset, and played a key role in the team’s transitional play from defence to attack. His vision and ability to pick out a defence-splitting pass provided numerous attacking opportunities, while he held the team’s defensive shape when the opposition was in possession.

Showed good energy and zest down the flanks, and was involved in good interplay in the attacking areas as he combined with Serero, Erasmus, Langerman and Mphahlele. Was crucial in setting up Tau’s second goal as he picked out his former Mamelodi Sundowns teammate during a quick counter-attack.

Looked decent in his first international appearance since January 2015 as he showed good ability to link up with Erasmus, Serero and Mokotjo. Swapped flanks with Dolly and looked a bit more effective down the left wing and ahead of Langerman and Mphahlele. Was replaced by Jali in the 58th minute.

Looked off the pace as he lacked match sharpness. Showed a lack of confidence as his decision-making inside the box lead to two good chances in front of goal – the most notable of these coming from six-yards out in the 42nd minute – but on both ocassions he opted to pass rather than shoot. Was replaced by Kekana in the 81st minute

Was slow out the starting blocks but once he got into his groove, his link-up play with Serero and Mokotjo was exciting to watch. Made a few good runs but was caught out for offside on a few occasions. Scored from the penalty spot in the 35th minute, after Serero was brought down inside the box.

Came on for Zwane in the 58th minute. Quickly got into the thick of things as he drove forward to try and create something in attack. He slotted home a penalty in the 89th minute, after Kekana was brought down inside the box. Was replaced by Mabunda late on after sustaining an injury.

Came on for Erasmus in the 65th minute. Got booked for an off-the-ball incident two minutes after coming on, but then made amends by cooly slotting home from 12 yards out to double the lead in the 69th minute, marking his debut with a goal. Showed good energy and enthusiasm and was a key figure up front.

Came on for Mokotjo in the 65th minute. Combined well with Dolly, Serero and Tau. Had a good chance to get on the scoresheet in the 71st minute, after being teed up by Tau, but smashed his volley wide of the target. Looked lively and combined well in attack, while also tracking back to help defend.

Came on for Dolly in the 81st minute. Did not play long enough to get a rating.

Came on for Serero in the 81st minute. Did not play long enough to get a rating. Did well to win a penalty in the 87th minute, which was scored by Jali.

Came on for Jali in the fifth minute of added time. Did not play long enough to get a rating.
