Bafana Bafana midfielder Teboho Mokoena channeled his inner Lionel Messi on Tuesday with his match-winning effort against Botswana.
South Africa concluded their international break by recording a narrow 1-0 win over Botswana at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening, with Mamelodi Sundowns star Teboho Mokoena proving to be the difference maker once again for the national team by scoring the only goal of the night.
The 25-year-old, who has now scored more goals (3) than any other player during Hugo Broos' managerial reign, found the back of the net with a well-taken free-kick that gave Lesenya Malapela little chance in the opposition's goal.

Mokoena's goal bore noticeable similarities to another free-kick that was scored miles away in the United States overnight, where legendary Argentine forward Lionel Messi put Jamaica to the sword with an equally effective free-kick.
While Messi's starting point was more centrally situated, and was executed with the left foot as opposed to Mokoena's right, the technique used to guide the ball into the bottom of the far post was reminiscent of that deployed by the Bafana Bafana star earlier in the night.

The former SuperSport United is fast solidifying his status as a set-piece specialist for the national team, having previously also netted a free-kick during South Africa's 3-1 win over Ethiopia in October last year.
