Bafana's opponents shine

Both Angola and Senegal showed they will not be pushovers with the Palancas Negras forcing Egypt to a 3-all draw in Portugal and the Teranga Lions crushing Namibia’s Brave Warriors 3-1 in Dakar at the weekend.

Al Ahly striker Meteb put Egypt ahead early in the game but his strike was cancelled out by his club teammate Flavio Amado midway through the first-half.

The 24-year-old Meteb restored the Pharaohs’ lead shortly after but was once again denied by Flavio.

Angola had the advantage through Dede early in the second-period before Meteb completed his hattrick to secure a share of spoils.

Egypt, who play in Group C along with Cameroon, Sudan and Zambia, crushed Namibia 3-0 and edged past Mali 1-0 in the previous warm-up games for CAN 2008 in Ghana.

On Saturday, Senegal beat the Brave Warriors with West Bromwich Albion striker Diomansy Camara getting a brace for the West Africans, and his fellow England-based partner Henri Camara grab the final goal.

In a game that saw fine soccer display and understanding between the Senegalese players, the WBA ace was on the score sheet as early as the 9th minute of the encounter when he got onto an El-Hadji Diouf free kick to head the Teranga Lions in front.

The first half ended that way, with neither side able to take advantage of several scoring opportunities.

In the second half, it was the Southern African team that struck first. In the 63rd minute, striker Brendell got unto the end of a finely-flighted over-head pass, ran past two defenders, and unleashed a ferocious volley into the top right corner of Tony Silva’s net to draw the Namibians level.

But the Senegalese bounced back just 10 minutes after that goal with Camara controlling the ball in the area and laying it on unto the path of Daf, who then turned nicely and passed to the waiting Diomansy to beat the onrushing Namibian goalkeeper.

With only eight minutes of play left Henri Camara, who had been fantastic all day, finally got on the score sheet with a sumptuous volley from a poorly cleared corner kick.
