Bay, thanks to a fantastic hat-trick by Linos Chalwe and a single goal from Peter Kirsten, whipped Ikapa 4-0 at the Westbourne Oval to lead the table by a single point.

Before the game, coach Vladislav Heric said, “I am not so worried about Ikapa’s recent win over Bloemfontein Celtic as this was perhaps good for them in the Cup.

“However, my boys are treating each game as it comes because we are in the right frame of mind, and are closer to realising what we have planned as early as seven weeks before the start of the current season.”

The winners of the Coastal Stream play in the home and away final against the Inland Stream victors on May 10 and 17, with the winners promoted to the PSL.

Maritzburg had to rely on a late 87th minute strike by Mokone for their three points at Blue Downs.

At the other end of the table, Hanover Park gave themselves a much-needed boost with a convincing 3-0 win over Durban Stars at Vygieskraal, while Western Province United could only scrape a 1-1 draw with Nathi Lions in Durban.

This result lifts Park two points clear of Province, with a crunch encounter between the two relegation candidates due soon.

The winners of the Inland and Coastal streams play against each other in a Final at the end of the season – with the victor of which will be promoted to the PSL.

The loser of the Final will play in the play-offs against the two second-placed teams in each stream and the 15th-placed team on the Absa Premiership table.

The winner of these play-offs will also be automatically promoted to the top flight.
