Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben suffers another injury setback

The Netherlands international, who has a long history of injury problems, missed the closing stages of their title-winning campaign with a hip concern, although he recovered in time to start pre-season with Bayern.

Robben impressed in Carlo Ancelotti's first game in charge of the Bavarian giants on Saturday, providing the assist for Julian Green to open the scoring early on in a 4-3 win over Lippstadt, before the winger doubled their lead just after the quarter-hour mark.

But his return to action was cut short moments after Frank Ribery had given Ancelotti's side a three-goal cushion on 33 minutes, and the club confirmed on Sunday morning that the Dutchman will miss the start of the new season, which kicks off on August 26.

"FC Bayern will be without Arjen Robben for the next month and a half after the Dutch winger sustained a groin muscle injury in Saturday's friendly away to Lippstadt," read a statement on Bayern's official website.

"The injury to the player's right leg was diagnosed after an examination conducted by the club's medical unit in Munich on Sunday. Robben will be sidelined for approximately six weeks."
