Bilankulu strike sinks Usuthu

Although the hosts made most of the early running, it was Arrows who created the first real chance of the game in 19th minute when they launched a quick counter-attack through Papi Zothwane, who played Mauricio Pequenino clear on the right, and the Mozambican then played in Abia Nale, but the striker’s first time shot was superbly saved by Kalililo Kakonje.

AmaZulu continued pushing forward, but failed to penetrate the solid Arrows defence.

The match remained goalless at the break.

Arrows looked more positive in the second half and deservedly went ahead in the 51st minute when Bilankulu headed home at the near post from a Joseph Musondo cross.

Usuthu almost drew level in the 75th minute when Pere Ariweriyai rose highest to head Masoeng Sillo’s corner goalwards, unfortunately, his effort was too close to Arrows keeper Nkosana Maseko, who made a comfortable save.

Arrows should have doubled their lead in the 87th minute when Kakonje parried substitute Thabiso Gopane’s effort straight at Pequenino, but the midfielder sent his effort wide of an open goal from six yards out.

AmaZulu managed to launch one more attack on the Arrows goal before the end, but Belux Kasongo sent his header from Mohammed-Awal Issah’s free-kick, just over the crossbar, and with that went the final chance of the game.
