Botched op keeps Rector out of action

After breaking his arm just months after his arrival at Ikapa from Danish club Brondby, the 26 year-old striker was sidelined again when the injury surfaced again.

“Gio initially broke his right arm last year, but now he needs a second operation to rectify what the first operation didn’t fix. It appears that the medical process must start from scratch.

_quote“The plaster cast that was put on after the fracture was not properly aligned and this has necessitated the second operation,” says Sergio Dos Santos, the Ikapa coach.

“We have been unfortunate in that we have not been able to use talent as much as we wanted to this season. Gio’s season is totally over now that he has to return to the doctors.

“However, we are fortunate in that Shaun Permall has recently returned to action and has been coming on as a substitute.”

Rector, an Ajax Cape Town product, has previously been with FC Fortune, Excelsior Mouscron in Belgium and Brondby IF.

In August 2005 he also attended trials at Bolton Wanderers.
