Although Shongwe dismissed reports that he has already signed a pre-contract with the Sea Robbers, the striker confirmed to KickOff.com that he has been made aware of Orlando Pirates’ interest and also confirmed that negotiations between the two clubs are underway.
“I haven’t signed anything with Pirates, but I have been made aware about their interest and I understand that they are presently talking to Black Leopards.”
Shongwe, who had always expressed his interest to play for one of the teams in Gauteng, tells KickOff.com that a move to Orlando Pirates would be a great honour as his father, Ronnie had also played for the Mighty Buccaneers.
“If both teams agree I won’t mind joining Orlando Pirates. It has always been my interest to play for a team in Gauteng so that I can be close to my family in Soweto. My father also played for Orlando Pirates, so this will be a great honour for me as he also wanted me to play for his former team.”
However, Shongwe realizes that there is still a job to be done at Leopards and has promised the Lidoda Duvha supporters that the team will not be relegated this season.
“The team will not be playing in the first division next season. That’s a promise that I want to make to our supporters. We will fight this relegation battle until the bitter end,” Shongwe added.
