Pirates have impressed in CAF competition in recent years, reaching the finals of the Champions League in 2013 and Confederation Cup last term.

However, the Sea Robbers' continental exploits has seen their domestic form take a knock. And Motale is pleased the Soweto giants will have a lighter load in the fresh campaign under Ertugral, who led Mpumalanga Black Aces to a fourth-placed finish in the Absa Premiership in 2015/16.

“Mina (Me), I’m happy since they (Pirates) are not participating in the Africa Cup because that will give them more focus on the league,” Motale says.

“I think they can do good because they got the material of winning and they got a coach (Ertugral) who is tactical. You saw his last result at Aces.

“He took them from nowhere to number one at one stage and they finished the season at position four… and that’s quality!”
