The winner of the African Champions League, where Sundowns are currently competing, will be one of the seven competitors in the tournament which is being hosted in Osaka and Yokohama, Japan from December 8-18.
The schedule will again feature a first round play-off match between the winner of the J-League in Japan and Auckland City, the New Zealand club who are the Oceania champions and perennial competitors in the annual competition.
The second round will see the winner of the opening match take on Club America of Mexico, who have won this year’s Concacaf Champions League. The other second round tie is between the Asian Champions League winner and the African Champions League winner.
In the semifinals, UEFA Champions League victors Real Madrid take on either the African or Asian champions while the winner of the other tie will meet the winner of the Copa Libertadores, which is either Atletico Nacional of Colombia or upstarts Independiente dell Valle of Ecuador.
