Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says they will take the game to Al Ahly

Ahly have lost away from home to Tanzanian outfit Simba as well as AS Vita from DRC in this season’s group stage campaign and these are results that inspire Mosimane.

Both Simba and Vita beat Ahly 1-0, which might not be enough for Sundowns to take to the second leg next week.

Sundowns need a good lead to have a shot of progressing to the semifinals. And the one way to get the lead they want is to put the visitors, who played against Ittihad of Alexandria in the Egyptian Premier League on Tuesday, under pressure.

“We have to tread carefully, but the most important thing is to play the same way we did against Wydad, how we played against Lobi Stars and against ASEC here [at Lucas Moripe Stadium]. That’s what we need to do, we need to take it to them. They are smart and very highly technical team. They have a team with top individual players, guys like Ramadan Sobhi and Ashraf at the back, El Shanawy,” Mosimane said.

They are a team that plays well, with a lot of good movements. They look after the ball, a perfect team in terms of play. But even a perfect team like Man City also there are games that they lose. So we also get motivation from the game they played against Simba and they lost to Simba. We get motivation from the game they played against Vita and they lost to Vita. So it’s doable.

“Sundowns is a good team. If they play the way they always play in the Champions League at home…Wydad we scored two, but it could have been three or four. We scored three against ASEC, we scored three against Lobi Stars. I’m not saying we are going to score three against Al Ahly, but if we play the same way and we believe, why not?”

Kickoff is 15h00.
