Mamelodi Sundowns launching new jersey in August

The club recently parted ways with technical sponsors Nike and then joined forces with Puma, 23 years after they last worked together. Even though the deal was effective from July 1, Sundowns have still been using their Nike shirts in their CAF Champions League ties.

The club’s media officer Thulani Thuswa insists the wheels are in motion for the new jersey's release. “We are expecting to launch the jersey in mid-August. With the jersey launching, there’s manufacturing, production…There’s always timelines,” he tells KickOff.com.

“It’s like history. Sundowns goes back to Puma after a very long time. It’s a historic deal and I know that the sponsors are energised and excited about it. It’s been a while since our supporters have had a full offering of their apparel in the shops.”

This means that marquee signing Sibusiso Vilakazi will make his debut for the club in the new jersey since he cannot play any part in the Champions League because he is cup-tied.

Sundowns face Zamalek at home on Wednesday in their penultimate Champions League group stage match.
