Mamelodi Sundowns news: Al Ahly provide update on Gaston Sirino transfer

Al Ahly director of football Sayed Abdel-Hafiz has commented on the Gaston Sirino transfer saga after the player expressed his desire to leave Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Red Devils have been long-term admirers of the Sundowns playmaker and the transfer interest amplified upon their hiring of former Masandawana boss Pitso Mosimane.

After Sirino made it clear that he would like to reunite with Mosimane in Cairo, Ahly launched an official $1-million (R15m) bid for his services which was immediately rebuffed and branded as derisory.

Taking offence to the opening offer, Sundowns responded with an audacious offer of their own as they tabled R50m for Hussein El Shahat – for whom Ahly forked out a record R80m to sign last year.

But with Sirino now confirming he wants to leave Chloorkop, can reveal that a second bid of $2.25m (R34m) has been tabled, which is short of The Brazilians' original $3m (R45m) asking price.

This website understands that no official response has been offered to the latest bid from the record nine-time CAF Champions League winners ahead of the PSL transfer deadline today.

And Abdel-Hafiz conceded that the deal is not likely to be completed in this window despite Sirino's attempts to leave the 2019/20 treble winners.

"I do not have the final details about the negotiations with Sirino," he said after the Champions League win on Friday.

"The file is currently in the hands of the Head of Transfers, Amir Tawfik. It is possible to delay the negotiations with him for another period, this is very possible, and it is also possible that we don’t sign him at all."

The Club of the Century may yet be able to sign Sirino after the PSL transfer window closes as their 2019/20 campaign still runs on, with the Egyptian Cup semi-final clash against Al Ittihad scheduled for Tuesday evening.
