Instead of traveling to South Africa for the Champions League encounter, Koffi went back home to Burkina Faso after an alleged argument with Zamalek’s outspoken chairman Mortada Mansour over unpaid wages.
Koffi said at the time, he would take "every measure that would preserve my rights after the chairman insulted me, my mother and my country", but backtracked in a statement on his Facebook page. "I would like to apologise to Zamalek, their fans and chairman Mortada Mansour for any mistake I have done lately," he said.
"I would also like to stress on my utmost respect to Mortada Mansour, who has always supported me… everything that was published about me not receiving my dues is not true. I received all my money and Zamalek is one of the best clubs in honouring contracts," he added in a swift turnaround that suggests he has been paid and asked to apologise in return.
But it's not clear whether the 29-year-old centre-back, who was part of the Burkina Faso squad that finished second at the 2013 African Nations Cup finals in South Africa, would take to the field next Saturday when Zamalek need only draw at home to Enyimba of Nigeria to move, along with Sundowns, into the Champions League semifinals.
