New Mamelodi Sundowns signing Sibusiso Vilakazi cup-tied for CAF Champions League

The 26-year-old finally completed his move to Sundowns on Saturday night after being the subject of rejected transfer bids since July 2015.

Downs coach Pitso Mosimane warned in September 2015 that his club would be back in January 2016 to try to sign the player again – "not from the boot of a car" – a statement that angered Bidvest Wits as they issued a response condemning Mosimane and Sundowns' actions.

Nevertheless, Sundowns' persistence finally paid off over the weekend as Cuthbert Malajila and Mogakolodi Ngele went in the opposite directionto sweeten the deal and loosen Wits’ grip on their star man.

‘Vila’ has signed a three-year contract with Sundowns with a two-year option.

However, the sad news for the Brazilians is that Vilakazi won't be available for selection during the Champions League tournament as was registered with Wits for the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup earlier this year.

Sundowns spokesperson Thulani Thuswa confirms: “Yes that’s true. He won’t be available because he is cup-tied,” Thuswa tells KickOff.com.
