‘Sguda’, who was recently put on transfer by Usuthu, reveals to Kick Off from his home in Pietermaritzburg that he has no idea about where he will play next season as he is still waiting to settle his contract with AmaZulu.
“My contract with AmaZulu is due to expire in June next year and I was surprised to be released. After having fallen out of favour towards the end of last season, I thought my fortunes were changing when we started pre-season and I was playing friendly matches.
“Coach Clive Barker was always encouraging me during the pre-season but then I was surprised when I was told I was not in their plans.
“I have been keeping fit with Vodacom League side Maritzburg City, but I have also been informed that by the time the transfer window closes I will have my clearance,” says Cele.
The 26-year-old, who has also played for Orlando Pirates and Golden Arrows, says he is genuinely concerned that he has not been able to reach the level that his career promised during his teenage years.
“I should be playing regular football for a top side and not sitting at home thinking about my next move. Maybe midfielders like me are no longer so much appreciated in modern football,” he says.
Like most of his peers from Pietermaritzburg, Cele has previously been accused of lacking in discipline.
