Speaking after suffering a 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Golden Arrows in Durban at the weekend, two senior players, who did not want to be named, said Zondo should be relieved of his duties.
“This man does not know what he’s doing. I don’t understand why he was recalled in the first place,” one said.
Another added: “While we appreciate the backing from our supporters, I think they boobed by asking for Zondo’s re-instatement.
"They don’t understand how he works with us at training and at the matches. The players are not playing for him and he won’t win.”
Zondo admits that the string of losses Celtic has suffered will affect the players’ mentally.
“I think we need to regroup for the six games leading up to the close of the season. Against Arrows, we could have scored many goals in the first half but, as you all saw, the players could not put them away.”
Asked if he is not worried that the management would pull the trigger again, Zondo said: “It’s a challenge of the game. You have to be strong.”
Zondo’s counterpart at Abafana Bes’thende, Manqoba Mngqithi, said: “We did well as a team and I think what worked to our advantage is that Celtic did not have a full strength team.”
