Celtic win Macufe Cup

accreditation

Stars will feel hard done by after dominating for most of the game.

Ea Lla Koto should have been awarded a penalty in the second minute of the game when striker Paulus Masehe’s goalbound shot was deflected for a corner off the arms of Celtic defender Thabo Nthethe.

Bruin Senokoane also wasted a good a chance to put Stars ahead in the 23rd minute when he sent his close range header straight at Stemmer, while minutes later Sibisi saw his goalbound shot beat Stemmer, but hit Masehe inside the six yard area.

The match remained goalless at the break.

Celtic gave a better showing in the second half, but neither side were able to penetrate the other’s defence, until the 85th minute, when Celtic substitute Malokase weaved his way into the Stars area before being fouled by defender Sanele Mabaso.

Malokase dusted himself off to blast the ball past Stars keeper Kennedy Mweene to hand Celtic victory and the Macufe Cup.

Earlier in the day, Bloemfontein Celtic beat visiting Lesotho team Matlama United 3-0 with goals from Petrus Mahlatsi, Mark Mayambela and Ditheko Mototo, while Stars beat Sundowns on penalties after playing to a 2-all draw.

Sundowns’ goals came from Manqoba Ngwenya and Katlego Mphela, while Sthembiso Ngcobo and Saitjheni Tsotetsi scored for Stars.
