Messi last featured for national team at the 2018 World Cup, where the side were knocked out at the round of 16 stage by eventual winners.

The FC Barcelona star has been called up for for international friendly matches against Venezuela and Morocco, but Cesar Luis Menotti, who led Argentina to the 1978 FIFA World Cup title, believes Messi should be rested for these friendlies to keep him fresh for the summer.

“I’m afraid that Messi plays,” Menotti told FM 94.7, according to Mirror.

“I see him with important emotional fatigue between the Champions League and the national team. I see him very tired.

“If he wants to play with Argentina, better.”

The Copa America tournament will start in June 14 to 7 July this summer in Brazil, where Argentina will hope Messi will be at his best to lead them to a record equaling Uruguay of 15 titles.
