Chamanga could tip scales for Birds

The Birds, since falling to a 1-0 defeat away to Golden Arrows on February 23 (a fourth loss in a row at the time), claimed three successive 3-1 victories in the space of a week and will be confident of a fourth win when Amabhubesi come to the eastern Johannesburg suburb.

Swallows have already defeated Thanda’s fellow relegation candidates Black Leopards on Wednesday afternoon and will be keen to make life equally difficult for the KwaZulu-Natal side.

The visitors, since their shock win over Kaizer Chiefs on February 13, have gone five games without a win, four of them ending in defeat.

Their latest setback came at home to AmaZulu on Wednesday evening, as Amabhubesi failed to recover from going two goals down inside the first half and fell 2-1 to Usuthu.

This game promises to be a high scoring affair, not only because Swallows can boast the Absa Premiership’s top scorer in James Chamanga (13 goals), but because these two sides have some of the worst defensive records in the top flight.

Swallows, despite occupying sixth position, have conceded as many goals as basement club Leopards (31), giving those sides the dubious honour of having the worst defences, and Thanda (29) are not far behind.
