Chiefs pull Tsotetsi out of Bafana again

It is the second time the uncapped Tsotetsi has been denied his dream of playing for the country by Chiefs’ management, who also pulled him out of last month’s semifinal against Botswana.

Chiefs’ officials said they did not want to risk any injury as they already have two defenders out for Sunday’s Telkom Cup quarter-final against Supersport United.

But Tshabalala is being allowed to play despite Chiefs’ weekend threat to again boycott Bafana Bafana’s participation in the annual southern African championship.

Wayne Sandilands has been brought in to replace Itumleneg Khune, who has a suspected bout of malaria and went for blood tests on Monday.

Thapelo Tshilo, who played in the 1-0 win over Botswana in the semifinal, is back in the squad as cover for former Cosmos team mate Tsotetsi.

Teko Modise’s participation has also been confirmed by Safa after confusion over his status for the match was cleared up. Modise had been booked in two previous matches in the tournament this year but it was not reflected in the referee’s official reports.
