Mabizela has been absent from training since last week when the team returned from Zanzibar after their African Champions League game against Miembeni SC.
However, Sundowns’ manager Harris Chueu has allayed fears that the former Bafana Bafana skipper has gone AWOL and tells snl24.com/kickoff that Mabizela called the team’s office on Monday to report that has gone home to visit his father who is ill.
“Mabizela called us on Monday saying that he had gone home to see his sick father, but while we respect the graveness of the situation, we would have appreciated it had he reported before going to KwaZulu\Natal.
“I have been trying to call him but his phone has been off,” Chueu adds.
