Clean break for Sheppard

A source at the Kimberley Medi-Clinic told Kick Off that the Bafana Bafana star had broken both his fibula and tibia, but that there had been no penetration of the skin by the bone.

“It was a clean break of both his fibula and tibia, but there was no displacement [of the skin],” the source said. “As he is an active sportsmen, we would therefore expect the wounds to heal reasonably quickly.

“We are hoping to operate on him tonight [Sunday], where we will insert a pin to help the recovery process. He is likely to be discharged tomorrow.”

Sheppard, who has been blighted with injury throughout his career, broke his left leg as he attempted to shoot from an angle and felt the full force of a two-footed tackle by Free State defender James Matola.

Sundowns went on to win the game 2-1 in extra time.

The Brazilians will now meet Kaizer Chiefs in the Final on December 1 after Amakhosi defeated Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 in their semifinal on Saturday.
