The Tycoons have won four of their last five matches to lift themselves away from the danger zone and into the relative safety of ninth place on the league table.
Their last two victories have been against Black Leopards and Thanda Royal Zulu, two teams who are very much in danger of relegation come May thisyear, so Stars will no doubt be keen to make it three in a row over the league’s strugglers when Cosmos come to Rustenburg.
Ezenkosi have had a miserable season, with just two wins in the league thus far, the last coming against Moroka Swallows in early December last year.
And of late, despite showing some signs of improvement, the points have simply not been coming: five losses in their last eight Absa Premiership matches.
Against table topping Ajax Cape Town on Sunday, Jomo Sono’s team showed plenty of fight but ended up on the wrong end of a 1-0 score line. Losing to the runaway leaders is no shame, but Cosmos’ odds of moving out of the bottom two spots are only going to get longer unless they start picking up points in the near future.
History is not on their side though. In nine league meeting since Stars were promoted to the top flight for the 2003/04 season, Cosmos have won just once against the northern team, suffering four defeats in process.
