Cosmos hardly had a shot on target, but Pirates really should have made more of their scoring chances.
The first half was lacklustre – if bad-tempered – affair, with both sides battling to string passes together and a number of bookings. The resulting free-kicks, however, were not capitalised upon, and the first half ended goalless.
Owen da Gama must have been disappointed when Mlungisi Gumbi was injured in the 25th minute, adding another to Bucs’ list of casualties.
Pirates fared better in the second half, creating a number of goal opportunities.
In the 48th minute, Bennet Chenene fired a shot over the crossbar from mid-range. In the 65th minute, Gilbert Mushangazhike sent a shot wide from close range, and in the 81st minute Tshepiso Tshabalala blasted a shot over the goals from within the penalty area.
Tonic Chabalala was on target in the 86th minute, but his shot was cleared by Valery Nahayo.
Morgan Gould picked up a second yellow in the 89th minute, and Cosmos finished the game with 10 men, but it was too late for Pirates to capitalise on their superior numbers, and the game ended goalless.
The result sees Pirates stay in fourth position on the log with 36 points, and Cosmos remain second from bottom with 20.
