Crack down on racism at Euro 2008

Despite some great improvements, there have still been a number of incidents of racism around Europe in recent years.

This has come both in the form of supporter chanting, as well as allegations of abuse from players on the pitch.

Platini has revealed that there will be a no tolerance attitude to the problem at Euro 2008, and has called for referees to suspend games in such cases.

“I admit that it is virtually impossible to completely eliminate this problem,” the Euro ’84 legend told

“But we have an obligation to combat this phenomenon through demonstrations and development programmes.

“When there are racial incidents, the referee should call off the game.”
