Cup battle will be in midfield - Masilela

Speaking to Kick Off, Masilela predicted that the game between his former team and Amakhosi will be a hard fought battle but at the end the Brazilians with emerge with a 2-1 victory.

“This is going to be one of the most exciting finals and it is difficult to predict which team is going to win as both have good players with lots of experience.

“I believe that the team that wins the game will do it from the midfield and Sundowns have an edge in that department. That’s why I see them winning today.

“I don't see a big difference in the scoreline as both teams are blessed with goalkeepers who are enjoying their best form at the moment."

Masilela adds that he still has bitter memories about the goal he scored against Kaizer Chiefs during the Rothmans Cup in 1999 which was later ruled offside.

“I don’t know why that goal was ruled offside. Maybe, if I meet the linesman again I will get an answer as to why he called it that way.

Masilela also expressed disappointment that the match between the Sundowns and Chiefs legends, that was to be a curtain raiser to the Telkom Knockout Cup Final, has been called off.

"I was looking forward to that game to remind the soccer fans about the old Fire Masilela."

An Amakhosi legend, Abel ‘Chacklas’ Shongwe, who won trophies while he was at Chiefs, believes that whoever scores first will win the Telkom Knockout Cup.

“Sundowns have been playing better than Chiefs in the past few games, but in a Cup Final past performances don’t count for much as every player is hyped up.

“My heart is still with Chiefs and I am hoping they lift the trophy.”
