Del Piero must go to Euro 2008 - Ranieri

The Golden Boy is arguably the most in-form player in Serie A at the moment, and he hit a superb hat-trick at the weekend in Juve’s emphatic 4-0 win at Atalanta.

This took Del Piero’s goal tally in Serie A up to 17 for the season, just two behind Capocannoniere Marco Borriello.

Despite this stunning form Del Piero’s place at Euro 2008 is far from certain, as he has not played for Italy since last September, while doubts still linger whether he can fit into coach Roberto Donadoni’s 4-3-3 tactical system.

“I am convinced that Donadoni will call Alex,” said Ranieri.

“He is enjoying a great spell at the moment and has been demonstrating his worth for some time. But that is only my personal opinion.”

Ranieri told Goal.com that he was delighted with his side’s 4-0 win in Bergamo, and stated his intention to make Juventus the number one side in Italy next season.

“Our objective is to be Juventus, so that means having that something extra and breathing the same air as the champions,” noted the Tinkerman.

“Juventus want to be number one and we always aim to improve. We wanted to get a good start to this game and, considering two great wins on the trot against Milan and Parma, hoped to end the week on a high.

“The lads did brilliantly to give me everything they had and always fight for the result. They inspire me.”
