Mbesuma, who now plays for Turkish side Bursaspor, is said to have just come out of an injury spell that kept him on the sidelines towards the end of last year.
“Collins is just coming from an injury and is not at his best. His application is about 70 percent, not the best but he will be fine,” Phiri told the Zambian media from North Africa.
Having joined the Zambian squad on Sunday despite the team having already been in camp for over two weeks, Mbesuma was then given a run in the second friendly which proved he wasn’t at his best yet.
The stocky striker has previously said that he has been training hard despite having missed the start of the preparations for the Ghana tournament.
Despite being a potent striker during his time in the South African Premier League, Mbesuma has struggled in the time he has spent in Europe thus forcing him to move from England to Portugal and now Turkey.
