Durban derby evenly matched

After a 2-2 draw against BidVest Wits and an impressive 3-0 whipping of Bloemfontein Celtic at the venue, Abafana Bes’thende will hope for a further three point haul against Thanda in their quest to remain in the top half of the log.

Coach Manqoba Mngqithi will have taken great heart from his side’s performance against Celtic, though he will certainly not underestimate Amabhubesi for this Durban derby.

Thanda defeated Orlando Pirates in their last league outing, a crucial fillip in their mission to maintain top flight status.

Roger Palmgren’s team also has the advantage of a game in hand over fellow strugglers Black Leopards, Jomo Cosmos and Bloemfontein Celtic.

However, they cannot be considered safe just yet and this derby against Arrows will be a stern test of their resolve.

Thanda have yet to defeat Arrows in their three league meetings since the former Benoni Premier United was promoted for the 2006/07 season, though they did hold Abafana Bes'thende to a 1-1 draw in the first half of the current Absa Premiership campaign.
