Etafia was recalled to the Nigeria squad after injury to Austin Ejide and doubts over the availability of their two Israeli based keepers – Dele Aiyegnuba and Vincent Enyeama.
The Swallows number one was on the bench on Tuesday when Aiyegnuba played in a 1-1 draw with Austria in a warm-up friendly in Graz, but Aiyegnuba has been allowed to return to Israel to play the final match of the season for relegated-threatened Bnei Yehuda.
Enyeama has since arrived to swell the numbers in the Nigeria squad, but Etafia is keeping his fingers crossed he will get the nod from coach Shaibu Amodu.
“I haven’t heard from the coach yet but we will see what he says,” Etafia told snl24.com/kickoff on Saturday.
“I also hope [Swallows teammate] Bevan Fransman gets a chance to pay for Bafana Bafana. It would be good to go up against him on the field.”
Etafia won the last of his four caps in a friendly against Libya three years ago.
