Ex-PSL players get Asia Cup action

Congolese international striker Edson Minga was suspended and had to watch from the stands in Hong Kong as his Bulova Rangers team failed to advance from the group stage of the League Cup.

They went down 2-1 to Eastern, thereby failing to collect a point which would have been enough to send them through to the knock-out stages.

There was better luck for his former Manning Rangers teammate, DR Congo international defender Liswa Nduti, who featured in a 3-3 draw for SLNA against Hai Phong Cement in the Vietnam National Cup.

Nduti, known only by his middle name Baby in the V League, saw his side win 4-2 on penalties to set up a quarterfinal date with ACB Hanoi.

There he will have the responsibility of shadowing former Pirates’ winger Josep Ngake, whose team advanced with a 2-1 win over Thanh Hoa.

Another ex-Buccaneer, midfielder Philani Kubheka, went one better than Ngake by scoring twice in Binh Duong’s 7-1 hammering of Can Tho.

There was no such luck for Kubheka’s former Pirates teammate, DR Congo forward Kabanga Tshamala, whose team Dong Tam FC bowed out on penalties.
