According to a report on the Urban Warriors’ website the deal is worth R10-million.
‘Tera’ will continue to play for Ajax until December and will join the Israeli-giants when the January 2008 transfer window opens.
After lengthy negotiations between Ajax and Haifa an agreement on the players transfer was reached late yesterday.
“I had a good trial with Maccabi and knew that they were keen on securing my services. After returning I had to wait for the clubs to reach an agreement and I am glad that this was accomplished,” an excited Fanteni said.
“Earlier this season there was a number of offers on the table [from PSL clubs], however Ajax [Cape Town] were confident that we could secure a contract abroad and I was not released.
“I have always dreamed of playing abroad and now I aim to make my stay in Israel a successful one. I plan to establish myself at Maccabi Haifa and in the national team, especially with the 2010 World Cup on the horizon," concluded Fanteni.
Ajax PRO ‘Shooz’ Mekuto wished Fanteni well on behalf of the club, saying: “We at Ajax Cape Town wish ‘Tera’ all the best for his move to Maccabi Haifa.
“Naturally we are sad to see him go, but we urge our fans to come and watch this naturally gifted striker in his last games for Ajax ahead of his move to Israel.
“Fanteni has come a long way since his early days playing the beautiful game in Paarl and I have always believed he was always destined to play on a bigger stage.”
