Fatigued Eagles arrive in Sekondi

accreditation

The Nigerian contingent arrived in Accra on schedule, but were held up in the VIP Lounge of the Kotoka International Airport following disagreements with local authorities.

The Super Eagles turned down the Ghana Air Force plane assigned to fly them to Sekondi, saying it was too small, and opted to go by road.

Security personnel at the airport then refused to let them come out to the team bus, saying the huge crowd outside posed a security risk that they were unwilling and unable to handle.

The squad were asked to wait and be taken to a hotel in Accra where they would spend the night before leaving for Sekondi on Friday morning, but the players insisted on leaving.

They finally got their way and left the airport through the tarmac gates reserved for visiting Presidents and other high level VIPs and were driven under escort to Sekondi, finally arriving their hotel just over half an hour after midnight.
