FC AK case could make waves

accreditation

Dynamos, Winners Park, African Warriors and Mpumalanga Black Aces currently sit in that order behind FC AK on the log.

Dynamos are in second spot by virtue of a better goal difference of two.

Winners Park and African Warriors have the same amount of points, but are both have a goal difference of minus one whereas Black Aces sit one point behind the trio on 27 points.

Up until now the four were merely vying for a spot in the promotional play-offs, but now with the uncertainty surrounding FC AK’s future, things could change dramatically.

In fact, it is not beyond the bounds of reality that anyone of these four could end up being the winners of the stream, go on to beat Maritzburg United in the winners’ play-offs and then gain automatic promotion to the Absa Premiership next season.

At this stage it is being surmised that in a worst case scenario that should FC AK and Kara be found guilty, the club will merely forfeit points; however this may not be the case.

snl24.com/kickoff is unable to get clarity from the League on the situation, but the PSL will be wary of Fifa’s creation of an Ethics Committee that is cracking down on illegal betting, manipulation, bribery and other illegal practices in football.

The most recent incident that was dealt with at international level involved two Polish first division clubs. They were both relegated to lower leagues by the Polish FA and fined heavily after an investigation into allegations of bribery and match-fixing.

Two other cases that have made headlines in the past are that of Juventus in Italy and Olympique Marseilles of France, both of whom were relegated after being implicated in match fixing.

However, PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu says that neither he nor anyone else in the League can comment on what a worst case scenario could be in the FC AK matter as this could be viewed as prejudicial to the outcome of the case.

The bottom line of it all is that for the four First Division Inland Stream this weekend’s game could be the most important in their history…and they will not only have to win but by as many goals as possible in order to put themselves in the front of the queue for a chance to win direct promotion to the Premier League.
