Reports had suggested that McCarthy stormed out of Ewood Park after being substituted in last week's 3-1 win over Newcastle United.
McCarthy was replaced by Jason Roberts just past the hour mark and reportedly hurried out of the ground in a fit of anger.
But Rovers boss Hughes has allayed any fears of a bust-up with the player, and tells SkySports that he feels people are ‘mischief-making’.
“People keep on telling me that Benni has stormed off down the tunnel and ‘left the building’, so to speak, but I spoke to Benni about it after the game.
“Obviously, he was dressed in his suit because he had been taken off early, but he was still there at the end of the game.
“It’s just one of those stories where possibly people are trying to make mischief, that's all it was. We’re fine.”
